SUMMARY:Northwest Memberfest 2022 With Vimla Maharaj
DESCRIPTION:Northwest Memberfest returns for its second year with a twist! This year\, we are excited to spotlight one of the Northwest’s great teachers\, Vimla Maharaj. Join us for a full weekend with Vimla from September 9 to 11. \nVimla says the workshop will focus on skillful action in asana leading to sukha (ease) and fun in asana. The intention is to remove darkness and radiate the light from within. This is the light that surrounds us\, protects us and guides us in life. This illumination we all need in these times. \n“I have studied with a rich tapestry of Iyengar teachers\,” Vimla writes. “Now my main teachers are Gloria Goldberg and Gitte Bechsgaard learning more refinement and polishing to tap into the depths of yoga to connect to the sacred space we all share.” \nVimla began in the Iyengar Yoga tradition in 1993. She has studied with BKS Iyengar\, Geetaji\, Prashantji and Abhijata with several trips to Pune\, India. \nOne of her greatest blessings was to teach her parents yoga at the age of 68\, and seeing how they transformed from their life experiences through yoga. \nVimla was born in Trinidad and has lived most of her life in Canada and the United States. She is a retired dentist.

SUMMARY:Joy of Movement
DESCRIPTION:The old Sanskrit word Lila means play. More than the ordinary sense\, it means divine play; the play of creation\, destruction and re-creation\, the folding and unfolding of the cosmos. \nIn this workshop we will explore a diverse and dynamic approach to asana practice. Building awareness from the known archetypes of asana and then deconstruct our samsakras (mental impressions or psychological imprints). We will recreate a fun framework to play with stability and mobility in our daily practice. \nSutra 2.46 talks of cultivating practice “with steadiness\, ease and grounded in joy.” So then let us refresh our practice and rejuvenate our spirit with a joyous childlike wonder. \nThis Zoom weekend is a playground for you to explore\, expand and evolve in your Yoga Sādhanā. \nTeacher: Zain Syed \nMore information here.

SUMMARY:IYNAUS DEIJ Symposium
DESCRIPTION:In our current moment\, all of us are being called to deepen our understanding of what it means to be a yoga practitioner. \nJoin us for our second topic\, a Listening/Learning Circle dedicated to access and inclusion\, moderated by global diversity and leadership consultant Betsy Silva\, featuring Iyengar Yoga community members speaking about their own experience. Smaller facilitated breakout sessions\, led by trained facilitators\, will give participants an opportunity to practice svadhyaya (self-study) in discussing our own personal challenges in practicing inclusivity. We will discuss steps to make Iyengar yoga more widely accessible and to support and give BIPOC\, LGBTQIA\, and underrepresented practitioners a stronger voice in the Iyengar community. \nThis series of facilitated discussions and presentations\, offered throughout 2020-21 by the IYNAUS DEIJ Committee\, aims to help us understand race equity and inclusivity as it relates to one’s personal yoga practice and in teaching yoga. \nThis series is open to all and offered at no cost to participants. Donations to support this work are welcome! \nPlease register here. \nThis event is December 5\, from 4 to 6 p.m. EST.
