SUMMARY:"The Path of Yoga" with Nina Pileggi
DESCRIPTION:What makes a yoga practice different from a stretching class? How does the physical practice of yoga poses\, or asanas\, help us to connect with ourselves and support self-evolution? Join Nina to explore these ideas and take a journey on the path of yoga. Please have 6 months of Iyengar Yoga experience. \nFri June 2 – 6-8 pm PDT\nSat June 3 – 9-11am & Noon-2pm PDT \nNina Pileggi has practiced Iyengar Yoga for over 26 years. From her very first Iyengar Yoga class\, she knew that she had found what she was looking for. Nina loves and values the idea of studentship – that one should always be learning. Iyengar Yoga has given her an avenue to continuously learn and evolve through studentship. Nina has taught Iyengar Yoga for over 22 years\, Nina’s teaching style is enthusiastic\, supportive\, and direct. She finds that yoga’s benefits are many and go far beyond the physical. She has found mental focus and joy from her practice. Nina has made five trips to Pune\, India to study with the Iyengar family. She has successfully mentored over 20 aspiring teachers through the Iyengar Yoga certification and assessment process and recently completed a 3-year tenure as IYNAUS Assessment Chair. \nMore information and sign up here.

SUMMARY:Second Annual Northwest Memberfest
DESCRIPTION:Northwest Memberfest returns for its second year with a twist! This year\, we are excited to spotlight one of the Northwest’s great teachers\, Vimla Maharaj. \nCLICK HERE TO REGISTER \nJoin us for a full weekend with Vimla on September 16\, 17\, and 18. Each morning she will teach two-hour 8 a.m. PST/ 11 a.m. EST. \nThis workshop is FREE to IYANW members! There is a $10 fee for out-of-IYANW region attendees. \nThe workshop will focus on skillful action in asana leading to sukha (ease) and fun in asana. The intention is to remove darkness and radiate the light from within. This is the light that surrounds us\, protects us and guides us in life. This illumination we all need in these times. \n“I have studied with a rich tapestry of Iyengar teachers\,” Vimla writes. “Now my main teachers are Gloria Goldberg and Gitte Bechsgaard learning more refinement and polishing to tap into the depths of yoga to connect to the sacred space we all share.” \nVimla began in the Iyengar Yoga tradition in 1993. She has studied with BKS Iyengar\, Geetaji\, Prashantji and Abhijata with several trips to Pune\, India. \nOne of her greatest blessings was to teach her parents yoga at the age of 68\, and seeing how they transformed from their life experiences through yoga. \nVimla was born in Trinidad and has lived most of her life in Canada and the United States. She is a retired dentist. \n  \nJoining from another region? Click below to donate $10.

SUMMARY:Roots of Yoga
DESCRIPTION:For most of us\, we experience yoga as asana.  But asana is only one small part of the yogic path. Especially in times of difficulty\, it can be useful to see how the human experience has been described in ancient texts and remains relevant even today.  In these gatherings\, the group looks at important concepts presented in the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali and we discuss how this wisdom can be utilized to cope with the uncertainty and challenges we’re currently facing. \nLed by Tonya Garreaud \nOctober 23 and November 20

SUMMARY:Joy of Movement
DESCRIPTION:The old Sanskrit word Lila means play. More than the ordinary sense\, it means divine play; the play of creation\, destruction and re-creation\, the folding and unfolding of the cosmos. \nIn this workshop we will explore a diverse and dynamic approach to asana practice. Building awareness from the known archetypes of asana and then deconstruct our samsakras (mental impressions or psychological imprints). We will recreate a fun framework to play with stability and mobility in our daily practice. \nSutra 2.46 talks of cultivating practice “with steadiness\, ease and grounded in joy.” So then let us refresh our practice and rejuvenate our spirit with a joyous childlike wonder. \nThis Zoom weekend is a playground for you to explore\, expand and evolve in your Yoga Sādhanā. \nTeacher: Zain Syed \nMore information here.

SUMMARY:IYNAUS DEIJ Symposium
DESCRIPTION:In our current moment\, all of us are being called to deepen our understanding of what it means to be a yoga practitioner. \nJoin us for our second topic\, a Listening/Learning Circle dedicated to access and inclusion\, moderated by global diversity and leadership consultant Betsy Silva\, featuring Iyengar Yoga community members speaking about their own experience. Smaller facilitated breakout sessions\, led by trained facilitators\, will give participants an opportunity to practice svadhyaya (self-study) in discussing our own personal challenges in practicing inclusivity. We will discuss steps to make Iyengar yoga more widely accessible and to support and give BIPOC\, LGBTQIA\, and underrepresented practitioners a stronger voice in the Iyengar community. \nThis series of facilitated discussions and presentations\, offered throughout 2020-21 by the IYNAUS DEIJ Committee\, aims to help us understand race equity and inclusivity as it relates to one’s personal yoga practice and in teaching yoga. \nThis series is open to all and offered at no cost to participants. Donations to support this work are welcome! \nPlease register here. \nThis event is December 5\, from 4 to 6 p.m. EST.

SUMMARY:The Roots of Yoga with Tonya Garreaud
DESCRIPTION:For most of us\, we experience yoga as asana. But asana is only one small part of the yogic path. Especially in times of difficulty\, it can be useful to see how the human experience has been described in ancient texts and remains relevant even today. We’ll discuss important concepts presented in the “Yoga Sutras of Patanjali” and how this wisdom can be utilized to cope with the uncertainty and challenges we’re currently facing.  This is an online discussion class\, not an asana workshop. From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. PST. $30

SUMMARY:Weekend Yoga Workshop with Janet MacLeod
DESCRIPTION:EACH TIME you begin your yoga practice\, you should engage in the idea that you are doing it for the first time. You want to be in that state of innocence which helps you to learn and grow. This approach is particularly relevant at times when your regular time on the mat has been compromised. This is often the case at year end. KICK START your practice in the new year with a weekend workshop. All categories of asana will be covered in depth. This workshop is open to anyone who has studied Iyengar yoga continuously for six months.

SUMMARY:Candlelight Restorative Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Teacher: Julie Lawrence \nNovember initiates the season of darkness. Nature asks us to hibernate\, meditate and be still in order to glimpse the richness of the unknown. At the same time\, our culture asks us to gear up for the holiday season and in our busyness\, become even more active. What better time of year to treat yourself to the regeneration that restorative yoga offers? \nIn this popular workshop\, candlelight provides the atmosphere for deliberate stillness. Learn to embrace the exhalation and the power of this listening silence. Feel the value of gathering your energies together for the coming of winter and the anticipation and promise of the rebirth of the light. \nWe will practice simple yoga poses that encourage letting go and direct an internal focus. Relaxation is the natural state of the body. Give yourself the gift of reconnection with yourself when you need it most. \nDiscount: yes
